  • Obituary*: say 6 November 2010; LaDean Spendlove Stewart, loving wife and devoted mother, age 85, of Columbus, GA, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 5, 2010. Mrs. Stewart always had a ready smile and a kind word for everyone she met. LaDean's pride and joy of her life was her children and grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. EDT November 09, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4007 Howard Ave., Columbus, GA, with The State President James Gregory Stewart will be officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.

    LaDean was born September 23, 1925, in Hurricane, Utah daughter of the late George Isom Spendlove and Lilly May Petty Spendlove.

    She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions of leadership and service. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club of Columbus, the Port City Toastmistress Club and served on the board of directors of Columbus Technical College. She and her husband were owners and operators of Continental Cleaners of Columbus, GA, and Tri City Cleaners of Phenix City, AL.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sinclair Stewart, 3 sisters, Shirley Glore, Ethelyn Braun and Jenny Spendlove and 2 brothers, Earl Spendlove and Clark Spendlove.

    She is survived by 6 sons, Billy Stewart and wife Gail of Columbus, GA, Gary Stewart and wife Carol of Atlanta, GA, Steve Stewart and wife Ann Greenville, SC, Dean Stewart and wife Sweet of Kennesaw, GA, Greg Stewart and wife Janice of Columbus, GA, Larry Stewart and wife Billie of Lawrenceville, GA, daughter, Linda Gawrych and husband Ed of Greenville, SC 24 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Ruth Memmott and Dorothy Spendlove and a brother, Paul Spendlove. LaDean was a loving, caring person who will remain in our hearts forever.2

  • Obituary*: 21 February 2012; Columbus, GA- William George Stewart, born March 10, 1946, in Hurricane, Utah, passed away Friday, February 17, while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with his oldest daughter.
    A graduate of Columbus High School and Georgia Tech, Bill was devoted to his beloved wife of forty years and his four children, for whom he worked tirelessly and selflessly throughout his life. He grew up in a large and loving family with five brothers and a sister, all of whom he cherished. Bill learned his selflessness and devotion to family from his own parents, the late William S. and LaDean Stewart, who founded Continental Cleaners. Bill managed and co-owned the company with his brother Greg until he retired last December, and was respected by his employees, vendors, customers, and competitors. In recent years, he struggled bravely with many health issues without complaint, but he spent his last day sitting on the beach and dipping his toes in the ocean.
    He is survived by his wife, Gail, his children Steven (Julia), Beth,Richard, and Katherine; two grandchildren, Victoria and Nathan; five
    brothers, a sister, and their spouses: Gary (Carol), Steve (Ann),Dean (Sweet), Greg (Janice), Larry (Billie), Linda Gawrych (Ed);
    twenty-one nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law, Rennie Bevers; a sister-in-law, Linda Phillips; a much-loved extended family in Utah and elsewhere; and a devoted chocolate lab, Angel.
    Funeral services for Mr. Stewart will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus.
    Visitation for Mr. Stewart will be from 5-7pm, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
