    Subject: Fw: Martha E. (Connely) Gamble (1822 - 1900)

    Hi Folks,

I am writing to each of you because you have somewhere online posted something about Martha E. (Connely) Gamble - who marriedThomas Ewing Gamble - but have not given her parents' names. I'd like to suggest that she belongs to my Connelly family. There are several reasons I think this is likely:

    1. The ages match:
My James D. Connelly and Nancy (Aiken) Connelly had children starting with Lucinda (1810) and ending with Augusta (1831).

So an 1822 birth for Martha would fit right in.

    2. The names match:
I note that within the first two generations of the family ofMartha E. (Connely) Gamble there are the names of Vistula, Judson, Vestula, Percifer Quitman, and even a Bonner.

Within the first two generations of the family ofWilliam Edwin Connelly (brother to my Jane (Connelly) Bonner), there appear the names Percifer, Percy, Vistula, Judson, and Quitman.

It is hard to imagine all these rare names appearing in both families by chance. And those are just the ones I know about....

    3. The geographies match:
My Connelly family was practically on top of this Connely/Gamble family. As can be seen from the map (see below), it is only a walk from Bacon Level (where I understand Martha to be from) to the Standing Rock Church that was founded by my ancestor (William Bonner) who was the father-in-law of my Jane (Connelly) Bonner.

My family was all over this area of Troup County, Georgia, and Chambers and Randolph Counties, Alabama. For example, in the 1860 census, the entry directly after the one for Thomas E.Gamble was for my Formby family. And on the page before was my Lamasters family.

Most of my family was in Troup County, Georgia in the 1830s. Some of Troup County is present-day Heard County, Georgia. But I don't know where James D. Connelly was in 1830. I only know thathe was in Randolph County, Alabama in 1840. But Randolph County, Alabama did not exist in 1830, so I have been unable to find him in the 1830 census (the land was previously "Indian Lands").

I don't think it can be reasonably argued that the families could not be the same on a temporal or on a geographic basis. But I have yet to uncover a Bible or Deed orother recordwhich unambiguously proves the connection. I understand Randolph County records burned a little over 100 years ago, so I am not likely to find a Will for James D. Connelly, or for Nancy (Aiken) Connelly.

So I will just invite you to lookat my Connelly page online, andrequest that you give me your input/advice/etc. That page can be found here. And in case that link doesn't work, you can try these:

    (a non-breaking URL below)

    http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/connelly.html

Please notice especially near the bottom of that page, where I have written the excursus on theMartha E. (Connely) Gamble family.

    Cheers,
