- Research Note*: "OBITUARY. Mrs. Emmaline Blakely was born February 13, 1845, and died Jan. 4, 1917, aged 71 years 11 months and 18 days. She was the daugher of Jno. M. and Permally Smith. She was married to Jno. Wise Blakeley Nov. 16, 1858. To this union were born five children, four of whom are now living: Mrs. Joe Gill, of Lanett; Mrs. W. H. Robertson, of Taylor, Texas; Mrs. P. P. Quaattlebaum, of Haskell, Texas; Mrs. W. D. Cole, Hill county, Texas; Mrs. J. W. May, deceased. She leaves one brother and three sisters: Mr. J. M. Smith, of Oklahoma; Mrs. B. F. Frazer, of LaFayette, Ala.; Mrs. C. A. Holliday, Loneta, Texas; Miss America Smith, Loneta, Texas. Thirty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren were born to her family.
Most of her life was spent in Chambers county. Her husband was killed in the Civil war, leaving her a widow at twenty years of age. She joined the Presbyterian church, when young and there remained true and faifhful trusting at all times in her Savior. We, who knew her loved her, and while we miss 'Grandma' from her accustomed place, we hope to meet her where there is no death nor sorrow.
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still.
A place is vacant in our home,
That never can be filled.
--One Who Loved Her" (p. 324 in Allie's Scrapbook).
