  • Birth*: 3 August 18441
  • (Groom) Marriage*: 28 November 1866; Bride=Nancy Elizabeth Jackson
  • (head of family) 1900 Census*: 1 June 1900; Trammell Crossroads, Chambers Co., Alabama; Wife=Nancy Elizabeth Jackson, Son=Elder James W. Harmon2
  • Death*: 17 July 1918; Chambers Co., Alabama; IN MEMORIAM. Mr. Elias Harmon was born August 3, 1844, and died
July 17, 1918. He was married to Nancy Jackson November 29, 1866, and to this union were born five sons and three daughters. All survive him except one son, who died about a eyar ago, and his dear companion preceded him several years ago. Mr. Harmon united with the Primitive Baptist church in August, 1889, and lived an humble, pious Christian life till his death. He was a Confederate soldier during the Civil war--a member of Company G, Thirty-seveth Alabama regiment--and served his country loyally. He was a devoted husband and father. Children and grandchildren were devoted to him and he performed his duty toward them in every respect. He was an honest, faithful, upright citizen in all the relations of life; was very industrious, and labored with his hands to provide for his family and those dependent upon him. He was in feeble health for several years piror to his death and suffered much pain, but bore it all with Christian fortitude and died in full faith of love and hope of a living God.

His place is vacant in his home where he lived so many years, and he is sadly missed but we believe he is at rest, not dead, but gone before. His body was brought to Macedonia church, followed by many relatives and friends, and , after a comforting discourse by Elder B. F. House, was laid to rest by the side of his wife, there to await the resurrection. Peace to his ashes. Written by request. Mrs. Ina
    Smith" (p. 369 in ALLIE ABERNTHY'S SCRAPBOOKS 1893-1923: Marriages,

  • (Child) Birth*: 10 May 1845; daughter of William Rufus Jackson and Martha Foster.1
  • (Bride) Marriage*: 28 November 1866; Groom=Elias Harmon
  • Married Name: 28 November 1866; Harmon1
  • (Wife) 1900 Census: 1 June 1900; Trammell Crossroads, Chambers Co., Alabama; head of family=Elias Harmon2
  • (Deceased) Death*: 14 June 1909; Chambers Co., Alabama; OBITUARY. Death, the grim monster, hovered over the home of Mr. E.
Harmon and took away its guardian angel, wife and mother.

Mrs. Harmon was a daughter of W. R. Jackson, was born May 10th, 1845 and departed this life June 14th, 1909. She was married to Mr. E. Harmon Nov. 28th, 1866. To this union were born 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. All these with her dear companion are left to mourn her departure. She embraced a hope in Jesus in early life and united with the Christian church. Later in life she expressed a great desire to join the Primitive Baptist church but from some cause kep neglecting it until feeble health kept her from attending any church service.

Mrs. Harmon died of cancer and was afflicted for months prior to her death, but bore her sufferings with patience and meekness, never murmuring at God's dealings with her.

We have been informed that her whole talk on her bed of affliction was of God and things above, and her only comfort in her last days was to read the Bible.

She was a good, kind wife and neighbor and an affectionate, devoted mother.

The funeral services were conducted by Elder J. T. Satterwhite the day following her death, and her body was consigned to the silent grave at Macedonia to await the resurrection. We sympathize with the bereaved ones, and truly sympathize with the children, for sad experience has taught us to know how desolate is ' home without a mother.' May bthe Lord give you the spirit of resignation and heal your broken hearts.

And when your time on earth is done,
Then may you go where she is gone,
There join with her in songs of praise
    To God through everlasting days.

    --A Friend" (p. 220 in ALLIE ABERNATHY'S SCRAPBOOKS 1893-1923:
