  • Biography*:      In May 1769, Francis Cogdell was granted 240 acres in Dobbs County on the north side of the Neuse River below Mockason Swamp, joining Abner Neale, Jr., Thomas Wise, a point near Joseph Sandifur, the said swamp near James Wise, John Blackman, and John Bryan (Colony of North Carolina Abstracts of Land Patents, Vol. II, p. 136).      

    In October 1783, Richard Sessions of Wayne County, NC sold a 100 acre plantation on the north side of tthe Neuse River to William Worley of Johnston County. The land was near Richard Pace's corner, as by patent granted to Ralph Willson bearing the date October 10, 1755. Ralph Willson sold the land to Thomas Wise, who sold it to Richard Sessions. Witnesses were John Smith and Joseph Sandefur (Wayne County NC Deed Bk 3, p. 142).1

Wise and wife Permilla Miller (Mueller) both from Marion Co., S.C .,died in Claiborne Parish, La. Their son Ambrose Wise born in 1820, S.C.and Mahana O'Bannon, died in Claiborne Parish. Their sons Nathaniel Wise and Columbus Wise were my great grandfathers. Grandfather Charles Otis Wise and Grandmother Frances Aurilla Wise were cousins.2
