  • Research Note*: October 2008; George Humburg came to America in 1869. I was told by my great Aunts that he came with parents John & Mary from Hesse Kassle & a younger brother John. Well, I have found a George, 10 years old (which is correct) with a Wilheim & Lousia. I thought I had found his naturalization papers, but not convinced that it is his. He was indured to Frank Stein & he is in the Champign Co. (1880) census with this family. He married Eliza Wimple there in 1881. They had 6 children b. in Champaign Co. (Pesotum twp.). In the 1900 cenus, they were in Clinton Co. IN. One girl, Cora Pearl was b. there in 1895. My gfather, William Franklin, b. in 1882 (George's 1st) married my grandmother,Julia Anna Dodson in 1900 in Clinton Co. William had joined the Army bef. his marriage. He was sent to Calif.,was caught in a mud slide, was injured & sent home. (Spanish Amer. War time). They had Carlos Paul b.1901, & my father, Floyd b. 1903 in Clinton, Co. IN. they moved to Fort Smith, AR. for Williams' health. William & Floyd contacted typhoid fever. Willaim died 11 Oct 1905. A black woman told my gmother to feed my father all the watermelon that she could. Well, it probably saved his life. Emmett Joel was b. in Fort Smith 11 July, 1905. I have a copy of his Birth Cert. They thought my father would die, so they waited and finally took William's body back to IN. He is buried in the Buntin Cem. near Jackson twp. in Clinton Co. with his father & mother. My grandmother was a widow at 18 with 3 small children. Her mother, Laura (Mack) Sink was in Clinton Co. We do not know why the two women decided to move to TX. Laura did have two olderbrothers ( they moved from GA) in TX. They were in TX City (near Galveston), where Laura ran a boarding house. My Mother's parents had moved from KS. for my gmother's health. Mary (Kimball) Price d. in Sealy, TX (near Houston in 1911) my Mother was 9.She & her dad decided to stay in TX. My mother was one of the 1st Bell Telephone operaters in Houston. They moved next door to my dad's family, well, the rest is history.
    Uncle Emmett is buried in Forest Park Cem. in Houston. He died Feb. 02, 1986. Aunt Pete & Uncle had Gilbert.1

It is told that he made Pfc three times!2

Stewart of Austin, Texas and John Stewart of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Tebbs Guillory of Beaumont, Texas and Steven Stewart of Nacogdoches, Texas; great grandchildren, Victoria Guillory, Katherine Guillory and Emily Guillory all of Beaumont, Texas, and her sister, Mary Frances Richardson of Kountze, Texas.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, S. W. Stewart, her parents, James Arthur McKim and Minnie Vickers McKim and brother, James Arthur McKim Jr.

    Graveside services were held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze, Texas, with James O. Bauman of Katy, Texas officiating.1

    Thought I would give you this update on Charlotte Harper Stewart Allen's daughter Anna Bell Allen who married Samuel Knox Cunningham:
    You have a Felix listed as a child which is the same age as their first child William Allen Cunningham. I have talked with a decendant of Anna Bell and Samuel and she ask her aunt (who lived with Anna and Sam and she said there was no Felix to her knowledge) The 1880 Calhoun Co Al Census does list a Felix age 2 months and the census was taken on June 9, 1880 which would make Felix born in April. Well, William Allen Cunningham was born on 28 April 1880 so they have to be the same person. Maybe his nickname was Felix or maybe the census taker just made a mistake.
    Also if you ever go to FIND A GRAVE you will find Samuel Knox Cunningham and Anna Bell Cunningham's gravestone pictures listed in Brooksville Cemetery in both Talladega Co AL and Noxubee Co., Mississippi. The G. Davidson posting listing it in Talladege Co AL is incorrect. The descendant emailed her the pictures and Glenda Davidson posted it wrong. Then Kathy (the descendant) posted it herself correctly.
    Don't know if you ever go to Find A Grave but I have found quite a few gravestones on that website.

GREENLEAF, C. R. FREEL, THAD GWIN, T. A. TURNER, W. A. ORR, W. C. GRAY, JOHN STEWART, E. C. MITCHEL AND L. H. C---.

    MR. EICHELBERGER WAS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH AND WAS ACTIVE IN LOCAL CHARITY WORK. FOR MANY YEARS HE GAVE GENEROUSLY TO THE SUPPORT OF UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN OF THE CITY. IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS WISHES EXPRESSED BEFORE HIS DEATH, IT WAS REQUESTED BY MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY THAT NO FLOWERS BE SENT BY FRIENDS, AS HE BELIEVED THAT MONEY SPENT IN THIS WAY SHOULD BE USED IN THE CARE OF UNFORTUNATE CHILDREN.

    MR. EICHELBERGER WAS BORN IN CHAMBERS COUNTY, BUT MOVED TO OXFORD WITH HIS PARENTS WHEN A SMALL BOY. LATER HE CAME TO ANNISTON AND HAD MADE HIS HOME HERE FOR MANY YEARS. HE WAS ACTIVE IN BUSINESS UNTIL RECENTLY, HAVING BEEN MANAGER OF THE FARMERS UNION WAREHOUSE FOR 30 YEARS.

    KNOWN AS A FRIEND OF THE FARMERS AND ONE WHO WAS ALWAYS ACTIVE IN THEIR BEHALF, MR. EICHELBERGER TOOK SPECIAL INTEREST IN THE ORGANIZATION OF FARM COOPERATIVES IN CALHOUN COUNTY AND LENT ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL PLANS LOOKING TO BETTERMENT OF AGRICULTURAL CONDITIONS.
