Made pension application for War of 1812 in Heard Co., he served in John Wilson's Company, Massachussetts Militia from 21 Nov 1814 to 8 Mar 1815, per Georgia Pensioners, Vol 1 by Dorothy E. Payne. The following information on Ellison was provided by Mrs. Gwendolyn Ann Gross Hicks: "Ellison always kept a big stallion and rode a great deal, even when a very old man. He was thrown from a stallion at age 86. He lived to be 95 years of age. He helped rear Gustavas Adolphus (my Grandfather) and his (Gustavas) brothers, Presley, Ellison and Charles after grandmother Elizabeth died. Ellison was very peculiar about his clothes. His trousers always opened at the side, never in front. He always wore a belt, never suspenders. He always had his vest and coat sewed together."6

- Mother: Gracie Eaves b. 10 Nov 1780, d. c 1855
- Last Edited: 17 Jun 2020
- Birth*: circa 1814
- Marriage*: 6 October 1833; Meriwether Co., Georgia; Principal=Abigail Blake1
- 1840 Census*: 1 June 1840; Meriwether Co., Georgia2
- 1850 Census*: 1 June 1850; Tallapoosa Co., Alabama3
- 1860 Census*: 1 June 1860; Clarke Co., Mississippi4
- Death*: 19 February 1863; Mississippi; in a Civil War prison camp.5
- Research Note*: 5 May 2019; Descendants of James have autosomal DNA matches with other sons of John Malone. Also, James was in Meriwether County, Georgia during at least 1833 to 1840, when other sons of John Malone were also there. So James is considered a possible son of John Malone, or an unknown brother of John Malone. His birth date and place of birth are problematic and may be incorrect in the 1850 and 1860 census records.6
