  I am working on the Stainback Family of Warren/Franklin/Vance Co., NC. I have Lucy Griffin marrying James Harrison Stainback (born 1785 in Prince George Co., VA) in 1812 in Warren Co., NC. The bondsman is Benjamin Griffin. I have always assumed that Lucy Griffin was the daughter of Benjamin Griffin. 
  
  James H. Stainback is not listed in the 1850 Census...but I find him in the 1860 Census with a new wife, Patsey Stainback aged 45. He is deceased by the 1870 Census as Patsey Stainback is living with her step son Richard Stainback. From her will written in December of 1880, I find that Patsey's maiden name is Dickerson. She had names brothers, William Dickerson, Willis Dickerson, and Leo Dickerson in her will. I have that a Willis Dickerson married Betsey Griffin in Franklin Co., NC in 1826. If Lucy and Betsey were sister, then this would mean that James H. Stainback and Willis Dickerson were brothers in law. Then what could have happened was that Martha "Patsey" Dickerson was an unmarried sister to Willis Dickerson....James Stainback still had younger children in the home...so he married her to help with the children. 
  
  I was wondering if you have come across any estate records on Benjamin Griffin that may list additional Stainback grandchildren...children of James H. Stainback. According to early Census records....he had more children than those listed in the 1860 census.
