    In Memory.

As the sun arose on the 29th day of January 1914, the spirit of Mrs. Janie Carter took its flight into the world above, and death's irresistible hand laid her body low, bringing sorrow to her husband and children. It was my sad lot to witness the sad scene. She was sick a long time and suffered more than tongue could tell especially the last few days, and all that was known to do, was done for her, but to no avail.
She was born, February 21, 1875, died January the 29th, 1914. She was married August 22, 1895 to W. W. Carter. To them were born six children, two girls and four boys. Two are dead, four are living. she was carried to Macedonia the next day, and after the writer and Elder J. T. Satterwhite tried to speak some words of comfort to the bereaved, she was laid in the grave to await the call of God to come forth to live with God and his angels in an endless eternity.

  • Last Edited: 20 Nov 2017
  • Biography*: In about 1694, James received an undescribed land warrant due for the importation of four persons into the colony. They were himself; a William Davis; a William White, perhaps a cousin of his wife; and his wife. His name appears on the 1696 Tax List of Pasquotank County, North Carolina. An abstract of his will reads: "Son William Davise "gon astray to my great trouble and Sorow" - should he return before the decease of my wife Elizabeth Davise, then a part of my land left me by Deness Graham; should he want to move, then he sell it to his brother Jeames Davise, & then to any of his other brothers; if they cannot agree, then take it to the Quakers to which I belong. Son John Davis - cow & calf, ewe, lamb. Son Robert Davise - colt. Son Henery Davise - colt when at age 16. When wife Elizabeth die, then Negro boy Samson to be for my four sons John, Jeams, Robart, & Henery. Eldest John Davise - his share of land, & in order then to Robart & Henery." 22 April 1715.
