    Lois Nix was born March 29, 1929 in Erick, Oklahoma to Clarence and Kathryn (Stewart) Wilkerson. She attended Delhi High School and Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She married Bill Baird in 1949 in Sayre, Oklahoma. She married Joe Nix in 1964 in Amarillo, Texas.

    Lois was a woman of many skills. She could paint a house, sew a fine dress, conquer the computer and excel at ballroom dancing with equal aplomb. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. Never one to sit at home and “bake cookies” she was a member of many organizations. She was a past member of PEO, and the Amarillo Rotary Club, and served as officer in the Amarillo Genealogical Society, Llano Estacado Chapter DAR and Colonel Richard Henry Lee Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century. Her loyal friends of Laureat Theta Upsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi and Starlighter’s Dance Club meant the world to Lois and her family. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

    Her favorite hobby was genealogical research with her dear friend Mary Kay Snell -she authored or co-authored some 25 books about families she had traced or records to help genealogy research. She wrote about her own early life for her grandchildren and great grandchildren with the same candor that she approached life.

    At age 81 Lois returned to the work force working at Jack Sisemore Traveland and she found her work home. She loved everyone there and felt they loved her in return. She retired after 13 years and always felt they were like family.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nix in 2008; her brother, Nolan Wilkerson; grandson, Neil Nix; and her parents, Clarence and Kathryn Wilkerson.

    Survivors include her daughter, Susie Chilson and husband Don of Coeur d Alene, ID; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Neiman, Noah, Ashlie, Kevin, Bryan, Natalie, Nolan, Noel and Kyle; and 7 great grandchildren.

    Mr. Nix was born July 15, 1928, in Plainview to Jesse And Ruth Nix. He married Myrna Faye Kimball in 1947. He married Lois Kathryn Baird in 1964.

    He started in the insurance business in 1950 with Minnesota Mutual in Amarillo. He worked for Manhattan Life of New York and Community National Life and was regional vice president of Western National Life.

    He was a member of Amarillo Association of Life Underwriters. He was president of general agents and managers and national representative for them. During this time he developed the "Yearling" Banquet to honor new men in the life insurance business.

    He was past president of Starlighters Dance Club and past president of Amarillo Figure Skating Club. After retirement, he served as business manager for his son's law firm for 10 years.

    He loved his home and loved to cook, entertain and dance. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

    Survivors include his wife, Lois Nix; two daughters, Angela Susan Smith and husband Don of Shreveport, La., and Susan Kathryn Short and husband of Hayden, Idaho; a son, Stanley Joe Nix and wife Cynthia of Kingwood; and 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Neiman, Noah, Ashlie, Bryan, Natalie, Kevin, Nolan, Kyle and Noel.1
