celebrated their fiftieth marriage anniversary at their home near Buffalo,
Ala. While there were no fixed ceremonies for the occasion, everything
seemed to move along in excellent order from first to last, thus making the
occasion a most enjoyable one by all present. By ten o'clock the friends
and neighbors began to assemble and at twelve all were marched out into the
beautiful grove that surrounded their premises, and all joined in serving a
most tempting dinner. Just such as old time farmers are prepared to
prepare.
"Outside the family circle the guests were select and
distinguished--distinghished for their age as most all present were past
mdiddle age and many much advanced in years.
"It had been agreed that we would hold religious services and accordingly
early after dinner all assembled in the house and listened to a short
discourse by the writer, and remarks by Elder M. Shaddix and Bro. B. F.
House, then after very feeling and appropriate remarks by Bro. Lindsey the
people began to disperse.
"This aged and honorable couple have seven living children, forty-three
grand children and four great-grand-children. We think it appropriate to
here quote Solomon, 'Children's children are the crown of old men, and the
glory of children are their fathers.'
"Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey are among those who are highly favored, as through all
this half century they have enjoyed perfect prosperity, and in their
declining days have a competency, and if nothing unusual should occur they
will leave to their generation much of the fruits of their labor. From them
young men and young women can learn lessons of usefulness, as their success
is due to their honesty and economy.
"We wish for them many more years of pleasure in their marriage relations.
